Communication skills — SOLER and the seventeenसंवाद-सीप — SOLER र सत्र सीप

99 of your 780 hours go here — more than any disorder gets — because skills, not knowledge, are what the client experiences. Non-verbal skills open the door; verbal skills do the work.

SOLERSit squarely facing the client · Open posture (no crossed arms) · Lean slightly toward them · Eye contact, natural and culturally tuned · Relax. Around it: affirming (nodding, humming "hmm"), silence (the hardest skill — waiting while the client finds words), and observation (posture, tears held back, hands, what is NOT said). Nepali tuning: sustained direct eye contact from a young counselor to an elder, or across gender, can read as disrespect — soften it; a client may talk most freely while looking away.

Client says: "Since my husband went to Qatar I don't sleep, my chest burns, and my mother-in-law says I am pretending." Write one open question, one paraphrase, one reflection of feeling, one reflection of meaning, and one gentle challenge — then check each against the table.
